It’s All About M.E. (Move More & Eat Healthier) Challenge:
This initiative has been awarded the IWK’s 2011 Quality Worklife Award!
In order to achieve the IWK Vision of “Healthy families; The best care.” we must first ensure that those providing care are healthy. The “It’s All About M.E.” Challenge initiative has made a positive difference in people’s lives by supporting employees in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It has made a difference in the health and well-being of our employees who provide care to women, children, youth and families. This program was launched in the summer of 2010 and has run five times providing 268 IWK employees an opportunity to increase their physical activity and make healthier eating choices. At the end of each 16 week challenge the participants are asked to complete an evaluation of the program, feedback is incorporated into the program for the next session. To date challengers have lost over 978 pounds and walked over 63 million steps. Read more…
Crichton Park Critters:
The impact of Crichton Park Critters on the local community has been seen in the development of friendship for both the children and their parents. The children are given the opportunity to foster teamwork and develop skills of sportsmanship, and possibly a little bit of soccer! Crichton Park Critters also allows children the ability to participate who may not otherwise be able to due to financial restraints. Read more…
Walking Wednesdays:
We’ve established new relationships with people who work within the field of health and wellness along with other groups, organizations and individuals who just want to get more active and participate in a fun walk. All our partners have noticed that we’re more energetic throughout the afternoon and that we’re encouraged to walk more during break time at work. Read more…
Kickstart for Health:
Due to the success of the Kickstart for Health, the East Dartmouth Boys & Girls Club has asked the Junior League to return in autumn 2011 to lead another running program. The Boys and Girls Club indicated that they are so pleased with the program that they are considering incorporating it into their regular programming. Read more…
QEII bike racks voted best in HRM February 25, 2010
Capital Health is proud to have been recognized by readers of Spacing Atlantic for having the best bike parking in Halifax Regional Municipality. Two bike racks at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre were among three sites nominated by the Halifax Cycling Coalition as the best in the city. Read more…
